Day 1: Braga and Guimarães

 

Start your north-of-Portugal road trip in the city of Braga, known as the "Portuguese Rome" due to its impressive religious architecture. Visit Braga Cathedral, one of the oldest cathedrals in Portugal, and the Bom Jesus do Monte Sanctuary, famous for its monumental staircase and stunning panoramic views.

Then, head to Guimarães , the birthplace of Portugal. Explore the historic center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit Guimarães Castle, where the Portuguese nation was officially born. Don't forget to try the delicious regional food in one of the many welcoming restaurants that Guimarães has to offer.

Day 2: Porto

 

On the second day, depart for Porto, Portugal 's second largest city and one of the country's most popular destinations. Start in the historic center, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and stroll through the narrow cobblestone streets of Ribeira, on the banks of the Douro River. Don't forget to visit the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, where incredible views of the city of Porto await you.

During the day, take the opportunity to climb the iconic Clérigos Tower and enjoy a breathtaking 360° view over the beautiful city of Porto. The Clérigos Church and Museum are also worth a visit. In the evening, enjoy a meal at a riverside restaurant and try some traditional dishes, such as the famous francesinha.

Day 3: Douro Valley

 

On the last day of your itinerary, embark on an unforgettable journey through the Douro Valley, one of the oldest and most impressive wine regions in the world. The landscape is dotted with terraced vineyards, picturesque villages and the majestic River Douro.

Start the day with a visit to one of the region's wine farms, where you can learn about the Douro wine production process, the origin of some of the most incredible wines in the world. In the afternoon, head to the city of Lamego and visit the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, one of the most emblematic places in the North of Portugal , with ornate staircases and lush gardens. End the day with dinner at a local restaurant, where you can taste the traditional cuisine of the Douro region.
